Food for Fines 2019

Dearborn Heights City Libraries
Food for Fines
Fine Amnesty and Food Drive
November 4, 2019 — December 8, 2019

During Food for Fines, library patrons may bring in donations of canned and dry foods to help the hungry while clearing overdue fines. Each food item donated to the library can be used to “pay” $2 in library overdue fines, up to a maximum of $24 cleared per card.

All donated items must be marked with a freshness date, a minimum of six months prior to expiration. Damaged and/or expired items will not be accepted. Donated food will be given to Gleaners Community Food Bank.  High protein items, such as peanut butter and canned meats are greatly needed.

We welcome food and monetary donations even if you don’t have fines.

*Fines on wireless hotspots are not eligible for Food for Fines. Other exclusions may apply. Contact our libraries for additional information.
