March Is National Reading Month!

Come visit the Dearborn Heights Libraries and check out a book or two! Patrons will receive a raffle ticket with each checkout transaction and can enter into a drawing to win some awesome prizes. Don’t have a library card? No problem! We can sign up Dearborn Heights residents right on the spot. The drawing will be held on April 1. Each patron is eligible for one raffle ticket per day.

Hunt for Easter eggs in the library, April 3-6. You only need to find one! Bring your egg to the Circulation Desk to pick your prize. Open to all ages (adults too!)

Poetry Contest for Poetry Month
April 1-30, 2023

April is Poetry Month! The John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library is hosting a Poetry Contest. All types of poems are welcome. Entries can be no more than one page with no obscene or derogatory language. Submissions will be accepted by email at jfkreference@gmail.com or by dropping them off at the library by Monday, May 1, 2023. We reserve the right to deny any entries that don't comply with the rules. Original works only! The top three entries will receive a prize. All ages are welcome.

Poetry Contest Rules:

  • The poetry contest is open to everyone regardless of age or residency.
  • Poems must be the original work of the author.
  • Maximum length of poem: 1 page.
  • Poems should be typed or neatly written. All poems become the property of Dearborn Heights Libraries and will not be returned.
  • If submitting a physical copy, the author's name and contact information should be included on the back of the poem. Electronic submissions sent to jfkreference@gmail.com should include contact information if email is not the preferred method for contest notifications.
  • Optional themes: togetherness, community, fostering the future, and "Is hope a thing with wings?"
  • No profanity, crude themes, or derogatory language.
  • Other languages besides English are welcome and translations would be appreciated as we may not be able to judge it due to staff limitations--translations are not included in the one page count.
  • Poetry will be displayed in John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library and on the library's website. If you wish your work to remain anonymous, please note your wishes at time of contest entry.
  • Poems will be judged by a team of John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library staff members.
  • Dearborn Heights Libraries retain the first rights for publication of prize-winning poems.
  • Deadline for submissions: Monday, May 1, 2023.
  • Winners will be announced on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

The animals are all delighted because it’s spring. However, Basil the Bear is still asleep. He better wake-up or he is going to miss the joys of the season. In order to wake him, Sabastian A. Lion and the other animals must engage in frolicking escapades.

Join us for stories in the Youth Area at John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library. Our stories are geared for children 4 - 8 years old, but all ages are welcome.

Three simple stories, music, and art for little ones and their caregivers. This program is designed for children aged 2 or 3, but all ages are welcome.
