Zoom Instructions for Joining a Book Discussion

Ideally to participate in a videoconference you will have access to a microphone (so others can hear you) and to a camera (so others can see you).
Computers and laptops are the preferred choice because of the larger screen. However, tablets and smart phones will work, too. My recommendation is to use your device with the largest screen that has audio and camera. For some people this will mean their smartphone.

Joining a Meeting from a Computer:
Open your email with the invitation to join the Zoom meeting.
Click the link under Join the Zoom meeting. Click Open Zoom
Test your speaker and microphone (listen for the ringtone; speak and listen for the playback). Click Join with Computer Audio.

Joining a Meeting from a Smartphone:
Open your email with the invitation to join the zoom meeting. Click the link under Join the Zoom meeting. If it’s your first time using zoom on your phone, download the Zoom app from Google Play or the App Store. Install the app and then open it.
Click Join a meeting
Enter the meeting ID and password from the email invitation (leave audio and video on) Allow your device to have audio and video
Allow zoom permission to take pictures and record video.

Click “Allow” Click “Join with video”
Note: There are 3 dots (. . .) on the bottom of your screen. Toggle between these (by swiping left and right on your screen) until you have the screen where you can see participants. Do not use the Safe Driving screen except to “Leave Meeting.“
