Teachers in Dearborn Heights school districts have the opportunity to have crates of 30 books delivered to their classrooms. Students can enjoy the books for about six weeks, and then we swap in a different set. Currently we are providing crates to 41 classrooms at 6 schools. Each participating teacher gets a classroom library card that can be used to access library databases.Classroom cards are also available to teachers who are not receiving crates.

By using email and the library delivery service, we are able to rapidly provide teachers with topical materials for use with particular units or assignments. Some of our teachers use both services. Teachers and principals in at least 8 of our schools are using our delivery service for a wide range of needs—cultural awareness, book reports, and even to support a Manga club!

Great Crates is the brainchild of librarians Jim Moir and AJ Wyatt-Greene.
