Youth Summer Reading Program 2018

Summer Reading 2018 has begun! We encourage all ages, children, teens and adults to register and learn how to earn rewards. We will have six weeks of special programs to inspire reading and summer activity. Summer Reading is a great way to maintain and improve literacy skills throughout the summer and share fun and rewarding activities with the whole family. The program runs through August 4. 


Music Journal Craft

Bring yourself and your friends! Lovers of all music genres can create their own music journals, which can be used to record practices, performances, favorite songs, songwriting ideas, and more.

Return of the Teacher Feature Stories
John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library
Begins Tuesday, June 19 at 1:00 p.m.

Staff members from D7 Schools will be visiting John F. Kennedy, Jr. Library to share their favorite stories with children. Join us in the Youth Corner for these free events. All children are are welcome.

Rock Star Camp

Wednesday, June 27 - Friday, June 29 
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  

Children in elementary grades can participate in three days of action-packed stardom. Find out if you have what it takes to be legend of rock and roll! This program includes games, crafts, and music. Plus, we will serve a nutritious halal snack. Children should plan to attend all three sessions. Registration is recommended by calling 313-791-3800.

Youth ages 10 -18 can participate in a follow-the-instructor painting class to create their own works of art. Younger children, ages 5 - 9, can paint with marbles. Please come dressed to paint. 

Lego Party

Saturday, July 7
1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

We will show a short Lego movie at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Throughout the program, children can build with Lego.

Marvel Superhero Party

Tuesday, July 10
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This family event is for all ages. We will have crafts, games, and treats based on the comic books and movies of the Marvel Universe. If desired, come dressed as your favorite character. Door prized will be awarded. 

Motown Cupcake
All ages are invited to create a musical masterpiece with a cupcake. Registration is required.

Gingerbread Houses

Children and teens are invited to make gingerbread houses using halal crackers, candy, and icing.
We can accommodate 40 people at a time, so waiting periods will be brief.

Guitar Hero

Join us in the Youth Program Room for drop-in play of Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero is rated T for Teen, but all ages are welcome. 

Summer Reading Finale

Kids can enjoy treats, games and crafts, Every child will receive a free book.
Our closing parties will also be the last opportunity for children to report reading and claim prizes.
