An eclipse of the sun occurs when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth blocking some or all of the Sun. When the two are exactly lined up, the Moon can hide the Sun from our sight creating a “total” eclipse. On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will travel from Texas to Maine, covering a large part of the U.S. in total darkness. This historic eclipse will be your last chance to see one for 20 years. Hundreds of millions of people are expected to take part in this record-breaking moment. Join us at the library for a solar eclipse viewing party (weather permitting). Eclipse glasses will be provided for safe viewing. We will have crafts and indoor viewing via the NASA website for those not comfortable with being outside or should we experience bad weather. All ages are welcome, but children 12 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Special thanks to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and NASA@MyLibrary program for providing the eclipse glasses.

During Ramadan, the Caroline Kennedy Library will host a four-week series of discussions on Ahmad Shuqayri's book Forty. In his book, the author summarizes his forty-day journey in search of inner peace. "The journey is still long, but it's a human experience." We are all on this journey, knowing that perfection belongs only to God Almighty, yet striving towards him to benefit ourselves and society. Copies of the Arabic language book Forty are available to borrow from the Circulation Desk at Caroline Kennedy Library. Discussions will be in Arabic. We will meet weekly during the month of Ramadan on Mondays, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

Please read the following chapters before each meeting:

March 18: With my life – With my Quran (pp. 13-99)
March 25: With myself – With my improvements (pp. 101-171)
April 1: With my stories – With God – With my books (pp. 173-239)
April 8: With the wisdom of the people – With my memories – With my wisdom (pp. 241-267)
